Beginning Summer 2025Project Description: Co-Product Recovery Analysis
The hydrometallurgy intern will conduct laboratory experiments and analyze data to improve understanding of the Still Bright process model. The main objective of this project is to experimentally simulate recovery of small concentrations of valuable elements, known as “co-products” . This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of climate tech and contribute to the success of a pioneering startup.
A successful individual in this role will possess strong lab and data analysis skills while being detail oriented and able to closely follow a project plan. They will be a part of a high-performing team, mitigate risks, and ensure environmental and ethical responsibility while contributing to the company's mission of revolutionizing copper production.What You'll Do:
Study electrolyte composition within the Still Bright process
Study precipitation of compounds within the Still Bright process
Operate characterization equipment such as XRF and SEM/EDX to understand chemical compositions
Analyze data in Excel from various characterization equipment, such as XRD and ICP-MS
Conduct literature reviews to propose various precipitation methods for recovering compounds from the bleed stream
Present research findings to the entire Still Bright team in an end-of-project presentation
What You'll Bring:
Entering junior or senior year of a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
Minimum of 1 year of experience conducting experiments in a wet laboratory environment
Experience with rigorous data analysis in Excel or related software and presenting results
Familiarity with operation and principles of chemical characterization equipment such as XRF, SEM, or ICP-MS
Basic understanding of electrochemistry and hydrometallurgical methods

Beginning Summer 2025Role Description: Cycling and Impurity Analysis
The hydrometallurgy intern will conduct laboratory experiments and analyze data to improve understanding of the Still Bright process model. The main objective of this project is to study the effect of impurities within the process, particularly with respect to copper yield (% contained copper recovered from a sample). This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of climate tech and contribute to the success of a pioneering startup.

They will be a part of a high-performing team, mitigate risks, and ensure environmental and ethical responsibility while contributing to the company's mission of revolutionizing copper production.What You'll Do:
Operate an electrochemical cell to generate electrolyte solutions for copper extraction
Perform several copper extraction reactions to study the effect of electrolyte impurities
Experimentally determine copper yields from feedstocks
Use characterization equipment such as XRF and SEM/EDX to determine chemical compositions
Analyze data from characterization equipment such as ICP-MS to reach informed conclusions
Engage in literature reviews to understand how various impurities may impact electrolyzer performance
Present research findings to the entire Still Bright team in an end-of-project presentation
What You'll Bring:
Entering junior or senior year of a Bachelor of Science OR Master of Science student pursuing degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
Minimum of 2 years of experience conducting experiments in a wet laboratory environment
Special consideration for experience conducting reactions in a fume hood and experience with filtration methods
Experience with rigorous data analysis in Excel or related software and presenting results
Familiarity with operation and principles of chemical characterization equipment such as XRF, SEM, or ICP-MS
Basic understanding of electrochemistry and hydrometallurgical methods
